Real results in the fight against drug production and drug distribution are already visible, the cabinet reported.
In the last month alone, 21 laboratories for the production and cultivation of narcotic substances were discovered, including a laboratory for synthetic drugs, the scale and technology of which has not been discovered in Bulgaria.
The effect is also present from the new legislative changes. More than 430 criminal proceedings have already been initiated and 214 cars have been seized from drugged drivers, the government press service reports.
From there they add that the measure also has a highly preventive nature.
“Testimony for this is the serious drop in new cases of drivers caught using alcohol or drugs. In Sofia, for example, with a similar intensity of checks for the use of alcohol and drugs, 130 drivers were sanctioned in the first week of August, 122 – in the second and only 58 – in the third”, notes the Council of Ministers.
The data was reported to the Prime Minister Academician Nikolay Denkov during today’s meeting in the Council of Ministers, which was attended by the Ministers of Internal Affairs Kalin Stoyanov and Ministers of e-Government Alexander Yolovski, Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov, representatives of the Ministries of Education and of science and health care, DANS, Customs Agency and the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria (NSORB).
The Ministry of Education and Science will begin expert talks on the preparation of a large-scale information campaign in schools with the aim of preventing drug use. Children will be introduced to the enormous harms of drugs. The representatives of NSORB expressed their willingness to actively participate in the topic, cooperating with other institutions.
