The grana team is defeated in the fifth round of the league
Fran Fernández’s team arrived in Alicante defending their lead after beating Mérida 2-0 in the previous matchday. They would face Hércules, a classic rival for the Murcianistas. Fran Fernández opted for a similar starting eleven to the previous matchday, introducing Larrea for Yriarte along with Moha in the engine room.
The Granas started the match dominating the ball and having several chances, but they were lacking in terms of scoring in front of goal. Juan Carlos Real and Pedro Benito started to get closer. However, the clearest chance came from a shot by Larrea without a goalkeeper from outside the area and the local defender blocked it. As the minutes passed, Hércules grew and stalked Real Murcia until Soldevila scored after a defensive error between Antxón and Gazzaniga. After the goal, the team had a hard time getting back on track, but thanks to Loren, who took several fouls and before the break had two shots that went just wide to equalise.
At half-time the team tried to react, but a counterattack by Hércules after a throw-in led to the second goal for the home team. Fran Fernández brought on Carrillo and Alcaina in search of a goal, but without much success. The home team dropped the pace and held back their defence. Despite also bringing on Kenneth Soler and Rojas to provide more dynamism on the wings, Real Murcia were unable to score a goal, although they had several attempts in the final minutes from Alcaina, Carrillo and Rojas.
The next league match for the Granas will be next Sunday, September 28 at 3:30 p.m. against Betis Deportivo at the Enrique Roca Stadium in Murcia. But before that, they will host Sabadell in the round of 32 of the Copa Federación next Wednesday, September 25 at 4:00 p.m.
