Even in a friendly match, such a result is a sensation. A European team rarely turns out to be better than an NBA team, and this was the case on Tuesday in Madrid, where the local Real defeated the Dallas Mavericks with Luka Doncic 127:123 after a very impressive end.
The teams of the best basketball league in the world, the NBA, are preparing to start the new season in two weeks – on October 24. The Dallas Mavericks decided to play one of the test matches in Europe. It was not without reason that they chose Madrid and the clash with the local Real – Mavs leader Luka Doncić, before moving to the NBA, played for the “Royals”, where he joined at the age of 13.

That’s why the Slovenian, of course, came out in the top five of the Mavericks, but it was only a nod to the Madrid audience, because after playing five minutes, during which he scored nine points and showed a bit of basketball magic, Doncic left the court and, by the decision of coach Jason Kidd, it was on him he didn’t come back. Also, by the coach’s decision, the other Mavs megastar, Kyrie Irving, did not play for a moment in this match.
But even in such circumstances, NBA teams are favorites in the competition with the Europeans. After the first quarter, however, Real was leading by one point, 38:37, and in the second quarter they were able to increase their advantage to up to eight points (57:49). Then the Mavs woke up – after an impressive dunk by Derrick Jones Jr. less than five minutes before the end of the first half, they began to consistently make up for the loss. Thanks to a great 22:8 series, they went into the break with a six-point lead, 71:65.
The Mavs seemed to be in control of the game in the Spanish capital. In the third quarter, their advantage even increased to a double-digit number of points (maximum 13 with the score 85:98). At the end of this part of the game it was nine points (90:99). Moreover, the NBA team had such an advantage that each quarter lasted 12 American minutes, not the European 10 minutes.
Even in the middle of the fourth quarter, Jason Kidd’s team was leading 112:101, and yet something happened that few people expected. Real Madrid confirmed that it is very strong at the beginning of the new season and carried out an impressive “renovation”.
Argentine playmaker Facundo Campazzo started going crazy on the court, scoring as many as 14 points in the last minutes alone. The Frenchman Guerschon Yabusele also kept pace with the Argentine. Thanks to Yabusele’s eight points in quick succession, Real managed to draw 118-118 two minutes before the end of the game. Later, until the end of the match, all points for the “Royals” were scored by Campazzo, thanks to which Real sensationally defeated Dallas Mavericks 127:123.
The most points for the hosts were, of course, Campazzo (20 points), followed by Sergio Llull, Vincent Poirier (19 each) and Yabusele (18). Tim Hardaway Jr. scored the most points for the Mavericks, 21, but he did not have such good support from his teammates, because the next on the Mavs list, Dante Exum, Seth Curry and Dwight Powell, added 13 points each.
