Real Madrid vs Villarreal ends in a draw

Real Madrid have to settle for a goalless draw against Villarreal. This result also stopped Los Blancos’ streak of six wins at the LaLiga.

Madrid vs Villarreal took place at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, Sunday (26/9/2021) early morning WIB. Los Blancos were able to make 15 attempts, but only two were on target.

Despite having a 52 percent lead in possession, Villarreal could only release six attempts with two on target. The number is far less than El Real.

Madrid is still at the top of the LaLiga standings with 17 points from seven matches. Villarreal had to settle for sitting in 10th place with eight points from six matches.

The course of the match

Real Madrid appeared pressing since the early minutes. Luka Modric fired a shot from outside the box in the sixth minute, but the opponent’s pace was blocked.

Madrid’s second attempt came through Karim Benzema in the 12th minute. The French striker fired a shot from the edge of the penalty box and could also be blocked by the opponent.

A minute later Villarreal almost broke into Madrid’s goal. Arnaut Danjuma got space to shoot in the penalty box and the ball that was released was still saved by goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

The duel between the two teams was tough in the second fifteen minutes. Madrid and Villarreal created minimal opportunities despite the buying and selling of attacks.

Arnaut Danjuma again threatens Madrid. He fired from close range, but the direction of the ball that was released this time went wide of the goal. The 0-0 score lasted until halftime.

Madrid almost conceded when the second half has been running for 10 minutes. Arnaut Danjuma fired a shot from outside the box, but was parried by Courtois and Paco Alcacer was too late to find the rebound.

Madrid got a golden opportunity in the 82nd minute. Eden Hazrad’s cross was met by Isco’s header, the ball was parried by Rulli and Casemiro failed to find the ball of vomit despite coming from very close range.

No goals were created in the second half. Madrid and Villarreal had to settle for finishing the match with the score 0-0.
