Real Madrid win the derby against Atletico Madrid in the continuation of La Liga. Los Blancos won 2-0 thanks to goals from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio.
Laga Madrid vs Atletico in the Spanish League continued at the Santiago Bernabeu, Monday (12/13/2021) early morning WIB. Madrid closed the first half with a 1-0 advantage thanks to Karim Benzema’s goal in the 16th minute.
In the second half, Marco Asensio doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 57th minute. Thibaut Courtois also made several important saves to keep the hosts’ lead.
With this win, Real Madrid is firmly at the top La Liga standings with 42 points from 17 games. They are 13 points ahead of Atletico who are in fourth place with 29 points.
The course of the match
Atletico started the game by taking the initiative to attack. However, they struggled to create clear chances.
It was Madrid who opened the scoring first. Karim Benzema brought Madrid the lead through his goal in the 16th minute.
This goal came from Mario Hermoso who lost the ball in his own area of play and the ball was then pushed to Vinicius who is on the right side. Vinicius crossed into the box and a free-standing Benzema met it with a volley to beat Jan Oblak.
Atletico got a chance through a free kick in the 35th minute. Antoine Griezmann stepped up as executor. Griezmann’s kick ball crossed the posse and headed into the top corner of the goal, but was blocked by Thibaut Courtois.
Casemiro handed the ball to Vinicius who is on the left side of the penalty box. Vinicius shot from close range, but Oblak’s effort was well anticipated.
Entering the second half, Atletico, who needed a goal, made two substitutions at once. Diego Simeone pulled off Griezmann and Carrasco to be replaced by Joao Felix and Thomas Lemar.
The entry of Joao Felix revived Atletico’s attack. Joao Felix’s shot in the 50th minute was blocked by Courtois.
Joao Felix is another threat to Madrid’s goal. He released a through ball to Matheus Cunha. However, Cunha’s shot could be anticipated by Courtois.
Goal! Madrid doubled their advantage in the 57th minute. Vinicius, who moves on the left, passes the ball to Marco Asensio. Escaped from the control of Atletico players, the unmarked Asensio fired a shot at the far post and could not be reached by Oblak.
Ateletico got a free kick outside the Madrid penalty box and Lemar executed it over the posse. Atletico’s players in front of goal failed to pass and Courtois was able to anticipate the ball well.
Madrid almost added a goal in the 78th minute. Ferland Mendy who moves from the left side releases the bait in front of the goal. Oblak failed to anticipate it and Vinicius also could not reach the ball. Luckily for Atletico, the ball went wide of the goal.
Courtois made another crucial save in the last minute. He blocked Joao Felix’s shot from close range.
