The first CL quarter between Real Madrid and Manchester City was a toss-up.

Several dream goals and a total of 3-3 means that it is wide open for the return.

It will be played in England in about a week.

It probably surprises no one that Real Madrid did not fall in the first quarter-final meeting against Manchester City at home at the Santiago Bernabeu.

3–3 meant that for the 28th consecutive home game, all competitions, the team stepped off the pitch without being a loser.

But behind the numbers hides a completely crazy event.

Already after 14 minutes, three goals had fallen in the match.

Bernardo Silva gave the visitors the lead after two minutes on a tricky free kick that Andriy Lunin misjudged.

New twist

Then the equalizer came in the twelfth after an own goal from Ruben Dias and two minutes later Rodrygo had turned after a quick counterattack.

In the second half, the roles were reversed. Within five minutes, Phil Foden equalized and then Josko Gvardiol made it 3–2 from the spot.

But the match swung and lurched again. Federico Valverde equalized with ten minutes remaining when he volleyed the ball past Stefan Ortega.

– It was a match that went back and forth. We faced a team that is among the best in the world, so it is important to be focused at all times. But this is not a bad result for us. We can’t be too hard on ourselves, we did well, says Phil Foden in TV4.

In the Real Madrid camp, the tones were more subdued.

– The crossing is just like last year, it feels like a loss, says Valverde.

The return match in Manchester will be played on Wednesday next week. Then Kevin de Bruyne, who sat the whole match on the bench, will be in the starting eleven. City explained his absence, according to the Daily Mail, with the Belgian not feeling well before kick-off.
