Liverpool finds smile in Premier League

The major European leagues offered a high-intensity spectacle this weekend, marked by big victories for Real Madrid, Liverpool and Bayern Munich. Conversely, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Juventus were forced to share the points.

In La Liga, on Matchday 6, Real Madrid confirmed their dominance by beating Espanyol Barcelona (4-1), despite a complicated start to the match. After a long period of sterile domination, the Madrilenians were surprised by a cross from Jofre, deflected into his own net by Thibaut Courtois. Dani Carvajal quickly got his team back on track by equalizing. Subsequently, the attacking trio composed of Rodrygo, Vinicius and Kylian Mbappé allowed Real to win largely, thus consolidating their unbeaten home record this season. In England, Liverpool recovered perfectly after their first defeat in the Premier League against Nottingham Forest the previous week. The Reds dominated Bournemouth at Anfield (3-0), with a double from Luis Diaz, who continues to assert his great form. Darwin Núñez also found the back of the net, while Federico Chiesa, fresh off the bench, made a remarkable entrance by celebrating his first goal with his new club. For their part, Bayern Munich continued their flawless run in the Bundesliga by crushing Werder Bremen (5-0). Totally helpless, Werder did not manage to put a single shot on target against a Bayern led by a dazzling Michael Olise, author of two goals and two assists. The Bavarians largely controlled their subjects, consolidating their place as leaders of the championship, an excellent omen before hosting Bayer Leverkusen, the reigning champion, next Saturday.

On the other hand, the weekend was more complicated for Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Juventus, all held to a draw. PSG could only do better than a draw against Stade de Reims (1-1), while Manchester United left London with a frustrating point after a goalless match against Crystal Palace (0-0). The Red Devils, who can regret their many missed opportunities in the first half, including two consecutive crossbars, saw Crystal Palace balance the debate after the break, notably thanks to the impact of Sarr, who came on as a substitute and was dangerous on several occasions (65th, 72nd, 90th). Finally, Juventus were held to a draw on the pitch of SSC Napoli in a tight match, also without a goal (0-0). This weekend of European football therefore consecrated the usual big teams, while highlighting the difficulties of a few big names■
