Real Madrid has won the gap with FC Barcelona again by winning from Alaves to four points. Karim Benzema made the difference for De Koninklijke. It was 2-0.
The answer this time was to Real, who saw FC Barcelona narrowly beat Espanyol on Wednesday. The Catalans have given up the lead and must hope for at least two slips from Real.
Real did what it had to do on Friday. Alaves initially made it difficult for the home team, but after less than fifteen minutes it was already 1-0. Ferland Mendy was taken down in the penalty area and decorated a penalty for Benzema, who took advantage of him. Alaves remained upright afterwards, but hardly created anything himself.
After halftime, Marco Asensio’s 2-0 seemed to be disallowed for offside, but the VAR let the goal go through. Benzema, who previously made the 1-0, served the Spaniard. Real Madrid could have walked further away from Alaves, but the need was lacking. The three points are in, Real Madrid is sitting comfortably in the drivers seat and will see what Barcelona will do against Real Valladolid on Saturday.
