Manchester City will duel again with Real Madrid in the Champions League. Pep Guardiola admitted, Madrid had a big influence in its development as a coach.
Long before gush Man City, Guardiola began his career by gushing Barcelona for four years. Despite successfully winning 14 championship trophies, Guardiola underwent a period full of rivalry with Madrid, especially when dibesut Jose Mourinho.
After Guardiola left in 2012, Madrid increasingly shiny under the care of Zinedine Zidane. The whites managed to win four Champions League titles in five seasons, including a championship hat-trick in 2016-2018.
Real Madrid then had slumped before being lifted again after Zidane’s return in 2019. In this season, Madrid managed to overtake Barcelona in the Spanish League competition to win its first league title since 2016/2017.
First reunion Pep Guardiola as City Manager was marked by a 2-1 victory in the first leg of the Champions League last 16. To qualify for the quarterfinals, City only needs a minimum of a draw in the second leg match at Etihad Stadium next weekend.
“They are a very strong team, in every aspect, and they have helped me become a better coach,” Guardiola told DAZN.
“Good with Jose Mourinho, with [Manuel] Pellegrini, with all the coaches they have. “
“If they do what they have done, win three successive Champions League titles, win two league titles from Barcelona when Barcelona has dominated in this decade [LaLiga] unlike others … I am very happy with their success, ” Pep Guardiola add.
