Real Madrid eliminated Manchester City on penalties and Bayern are waiting for it

(We covered the match live, you can read about it in the second half of the article.)

Bayern Munich (German)-Arsenal (English) 1-0 (0-0)

goal: Kimmich (63.)
Advance: Bayern Munich 3-2 on aggregate.

At the beginning of the match, even as a guest, Arsenal proved to be more dangerous, but could not break the Bavarians’ defense until the break. Bayern, whose second coach is Zsolt Lőw, started the second half brilliantly, Leon Goretzka headed the crossbar. Although the Gunners gradually regained control of the game, at the end of a quick counterattack, Bayern took the lead with Joshua Kimmich’s six-meter header. In the remaining time, the Bavarians maintained their minimal advantage with an organized defense until the end of the game, so that Arsenal did not really have much chance to equalize.

The German star team reached the semi-finals after three quarter-final failures in a row, where they last visited in 2018.

Manchester City (English)-Real Madrid (Spain) 1-1 (0-1, 1-1, 1-1) – with 11: 3-4

goal: De Bruyne (76th) and Rodrygo (12th)
Moved on: Real Madrid with 11 after a 4-4 aggregate.

The Manchester team quickly fell behind against Real Madrid, after Rodrygo’s goal they played football in a superior manner, but missed their opportunities. The home team came closest to equalizing with Erling Haaland’s header, but the ball bounced off the crossbar. The picture of the game did not change even after the change of half: the English attacked, they completely pinned down their opponent, but they could not find an antidote to the organized defense of the Spaniards, so the minutes passed without any chances. In the end, the royal guard could not withstand the great pressure, as Kevin De Bruyne equalized from close range with a quarter of an hour before the end. In the remaining time, only the islanders had the opportunity to decide the match and also the duel, but they did not manage to take the Ukrainian Andrij Lunyin’s goal again.

In the extra time, Manchester City took fewer risks, and even though they still had much more possession, their superiority was no longer so overwhelming, and in fact, Real got out of the grip. Since extra time did not decide either, a battle of nerves followed, in which Real’s senior Luka Modric was the first to make a mistake. After that, however, Lunyin saved the attempts of Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic. In the last round, the Manchester goalkeeper, Ederson, did not make a mistake, but he could not save Antonio Rüdiger’s shot, so Real could be happy about advancing.

The two teams also met in the knockout stages in the previous two competitions: two years ago, Real advanced, and last year, Manchester City, and then both marched to the final triumph.

The Royal Guard will clash with Bayern Munich in the semi-finals of the most prestigious European cup series. On the other side, Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund are fighting for the final.
