All of French football is really on its feet on Monday morning. The relatively harsh words of the president of the association, Noel Le Graet, who shrugged Zinedine Zidane’s back are to blame. For example, Kylian Mbappé defended the legends of France, and now also of Real Madrid.
It was Zinedine Zidane who was waiting for an offer to become the coach of France. According to the French media, Didier Deschamps resigned after the World Cup in Qatar and the legendary “Zizou” took over from Tres Bleus.
For this reason, he rejected offers from PSG and Manchester United in the summer. But the president of the French federation, Noel Le Graet, has decided to extend his contract with Deschamps, which of course is perfectly fine and he has the right to do so. But words to Zidane were quite useless.
In fact, when asked by reporters about Zidane, Le Graet responded more as if he was an annoying foe, rather than one of the country’s greatest, if not the greatest, sporting icon.
“Will Zidane coach Brazil? I don’t care at all, let him go wherever he wants. He can coach whoever he wants, national team, club… said Le Graet in an interview with RMC Sport. And he continued sharply.
“Did Zidane try to contact me? No, I wouldn’t answer his phone anyway. surprised Le Graet. “Why should I tell him to look for another club? Let him sign up for some special program that will find him a club or a national team.” added the president of the French union.
And these words caused a huge wave of reactions. Even Kylian Mbappé, the biggest star of the current national team, defended his idol. “Zidane is France, so you can’t disrespect a legend” Mbappé said on his Twitter.
Le Graet’s words didn’t go unnoticed at Real Madrid either, where Zinedine Zidane is considered one of the club’s greatest icons.
“Real Madrid CF regrets the unpleasant remarks made by the president of the French Football Federation, Noel Le Graët, about Zinedine Zidane, one of the greatest legends of world sport,” wrote Real in its official statement.
“These words show a lack of respect for one of the most admired figures by fans around the world and our club expect immediate compensation. Zinedine Zidane, world champion and European champion defending his country’s shirt among many other titles, he represents the values of sport and he has demonstrated this throughout his professional career as a player and coach.” the club goes on.
“The statements of the president of the French Football Federation are inappropriate for those who defend this national team and are disqualifying, such as those made about our captain Karim Benzema, current Ballon d’Or, champion of the Nations League with France in 2021 and winner of 5 Champions Leagues, among many other titles”, concluded the Real Madrid press release.
