With a double from Brazilian Rodrygo Goes, Real Madrid beat Athletic Club de Bilbao 2-0 on Sunday and established itself in first position in the Spanish Soccer League.
The meringues, in front of their audience at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, played a round match against a major rival, to prevail with solvency.
Rodrygo opened the scoring in the 8th minute and then sealed the duel in the 73rd minute, to the delight of the thousands of fans gathered in the sacred grounds of the most successful club in the history of sport.
With this victory, Real Madrid reached 75 points in the League, eight ahead of its main runner-up and historical archrival Barcelona (67), defending champion.
Athletic, despite the setback, remained anchored with 56 points in fourth place, last with direct tickets to next season’s Champions League.
However, Atlético de Madrid has 55 points and one game less, which they will play tomorrow at Villarreal’s home.
