Real Madrid closes the League with a goalless draw against Betis – Diario Deportivo Más

Real Madrid, mathematical champion of the Spanish League since the end of April, closed this edition of the championship with a 0-0 draw at home against Betis, this Friday at the start of the 38th and final day.

The ‘merengue’ team played this match just over a week before the Champions League final, where they will face English Liverpool on Saturday 28 at the Stade de France in Paris.

All this without forgetting that at any moment the French attacker Kylian Mbappé (Paris Saint-Germain) can announce if he continues in his current club or if he is looking for a new destination, which could be the Santiago Bernabéu, according to press information in the last months.

The match against Betis therefore did not have great incentives at stake, but it could have served for some farewells.

Brazilian winger Marcelo, whose contract ends on June 30, was applauded when he went out to warm up in the 57th minute. At 34, the man with the most titles in Real Madrid’s history -with 24, one more than the legendary Paco Gento- will leave the club in principle and could return to play in Brazil.

Isco, who also ends his contract in a month, could also have played his last home game at the Bernabéu. He entered the match against Betis in the 71st minute, at the same time as Marcelo, to applause from the stands.

Croatian Luka Modric, for his part, does appear to be in the process of renewing his contract with Real Madrid for another year.

The Welshman Gareth Bale, who will leave the club, did not even appear in the squad and was not even in the stands to follow the match.

Real Madrid’s last league game was poor. Only Karim Benzema, with an attempt in the 84th minute after a run by Vinicius Jr down the left wing, and Joaquín for Betis, with a good chance three minutes later, added some emotion in the final moments, in a duel played with strong heat in the Spanish capital.

In the other game on Friday in this opening of matchday 38, also with nothing at stake, the already relegated Levante said goodbye to the first division with a 4-2 victory at Rayo Vallecano.

The matches with goals at stake in this day of the Spanish League will take place on Sunday.

A place for the Conference League is at stake -seventh place-. Villarreal occupies that position at the moment and visits Barcelona. Athletic (8th) also opts for the goal, one point behind the ‘Yellow Submarine’ and which moves to Sevilla’s field.

In the lower part, Cádiz (18th), Mallorca (17th) and Granada (16th), by a margin of one point, will try to avoid the last relegation place that remains to be attributed.

Levante and Alavés are already mathematically relegated. (AFP)
