Manchester City are out of the Champions League.
The reigning champions fell to Real Madrid – after a penalty shootout.
– We did everything except win, says Pep Guardiola.
65–35 in possession, 11–3 in shots on goal and 18–1 in corners.
Manchester City dominated the second leg with Real Madrid, but after 120 minutes of play it was 1-1 and the shocker had to be decided on penalties.
There, Man City had to do without their normally regular penalty shooter Erling Haaland, who was replaced before extra time after a lackluster effort.
– He asked to be replaced. He could not continue, says Pep Guardiola without revealing whether it was a matter of fatigue or injury.
Lunin hero
Julián Álvarez, Bernardo Silva, Mateo Kovacic, Phil Foden and Ederson hit City’s penalties – but Silva and Kovacic missed.
Or rather: Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin saved.
– I am the happiest in the world right now, says Lunin afterwards.
Real mot Bayern
In Man City, it is completely depressing.
– It is not easy right now. This feels like one of the toughest (losses), like this right after. But it’s football and you have to score goals. We totally dominated and had chances, but it wasn’t our day, says Rúben Dias in TV4.
– We played fantastically well, but unfortunately we didn’t win, notes Pep Guardiola.
In the semi-finals, Real Madrid face Bayern Munich, who knocked out Arsenal.
