Real Madrid, Barça and Athletic sue LaLiga and CVC

The Athletic Bilbao, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid CF have decided to take legal action against LaLiga; its president, Javier Tebas; and the private equity fund CVC after the agreements adopted between both entities on December 10.

The three clubs yesterday issued a joint statement in which they allege that said agreement “is about an illegal transaction that causes irreparable damage to the entire Spanish football sector and which flagrantly violates the most elementary principles of Spanish sports law and the La Liga statutes itself. ”

The Extraordinary General Assembly of LaLiga approved last Friday the agreement with the British fund for which it will inject 1,994 million euros in exchange for 9% of audiovisual rights for 50 years, with the support of 37 of the 42 clubs that comprise it, four votes against and one abstention.

This injection of capital will reach the clubs in a few weeks and they will be able to start their projects infrastructure improvement, digitization and internationalization, among others.

Through this agreement, CVC becomes “an industrial partner of LaLiga and its clubs with the aim of boosting its global growth, continuing the transformation towards a global entertainment company digital”.
