Real Madrid has received the temporary replacement for Thibaut Courtois. Kepa Arrizabalaga leaves Chelsea to start a season on loan for De Koninklijke.

Real announces through the official channels that the Spaniard is making the switch. There is no purchase option included in the deal. Courtois was seriously injured in August and tore a cruciate ligament: the Belgian will not be available for the next six months and Real had to act quickly.
With Kepa, the Spanish top club brings in the most expensive goalkeeper in football history. The now 28-year-old closing post exchanged Athletic Bilbao for Chelsea in 2018 and cost eighty million euros. Kepa entered Chelsea’s season as first-choice, but now manager Mauricio Pochettino will count on Robert Sánchez.

Kepa temporarily ends a five-year period at Chelsea. The goalkeeper was discredited in 2019 for refusing to be substituted in the final of the Carabao Cup, much to the anger of Maurizio Sarri, then the manager of The Blues.
