There is still plenty of time before the start of the Primera Division season on August 12th. However, squad planning is already in full swing in the teams. In Madrid, the two local heroes are targeting the same player.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, both Real and Atletico Madrid are interested in Brazilian midfielder Danilo. The 21-year-old was recently observed more closely by the two heavyweights. There were plenty of opportunities to do so. Last season he made 25 appearances for Palmeiras Sao Paulo.

His club thinks highly of Danilo. For this reason, he only gave the left foot a new contract in February of this year, which is valid until 2026. With his current team, Danilo won the Brazilian Cup and the Copa Libertadores, the South American equivalent of the European Champions League, in 2020. The following year Palmeiras even defended this important club title again.

Danilo played a big part in these achievements and his club would be reluctant to let him go. Although the market value is estimated at just €22m, the long contract length could force Atletico and Real Madrid to dig deeper.

Incidentally, the Spaniards cannot rely on Danilo’s willingness to switch to Europe at all costs. A year ago he is said to have canceled Watford FC. However, the relegated Premier League does not have the reputation of the two Madrid clubs.
