Real Madrid unexpectedly ran into points in the home game against Celta de Vigo. The Royal still converted a 0-1 deficit into a 2-1 lead, but still gave it a 2-2 score in the final phase.
The opening goal was in the net early on, but it wasn’t Real that pulled the trigger for the first time. Fedor Smolov, striker of Celta de Vigo and former player of Feyenoord, completed a nice pass from Iago Aspas and surprisingly put the Galician visitors at 0-1. A major disappointment for leader Real, who was looking for the remainder of the first half and did not find one.
In the second half the capital city went much better. Where a goal by Sergio Ramos was initially rejected due to offside, it was hit a moment later. More than ten minutes after the start of the second half, Toni Kroos pressed the ball into the bottom corner (1-1) and the first damage was repaired.
Moments later, Real also got help from the referee, who put the ball on the spot and gave Ramos the chance to rectify his previously rejected goal. That was entrusted to the supplier of De Koninklijke. He shot the penalty in convincingly, but that goal turned out not to be the winning one in the final phase.
Celta came back from an almost hopeless position and, via Santi Mina, who appreciated a fantastic pass from Rafinha, stuck the 2-2 against the ropes. In the final phase Real crashed at the Galician gates, but the visitors went against it with all odds. Real is still the leader, but sees the lead on eternal rival Barcelona shrink to one point.
