Real estate market 2022: Pandemic slows down urbanization

No end to urbanization in sight

Be honest: is the corona pandemic heralding the end of the megatrend of urbanization? An answer to this still seems premature. The cities remain the focus of economic, social and cultural life. In this respect, many people will continue to live in cities in the future and want to take advantage of the wide range of offers. Urbanization is therefore likely to continue thanks to immigration from abroad and a sharp increase in the quality of life – albeit at a reduced pace.

And while it is still unclear to what extent companies will rely on working from home and flexible forms of work in the future, it seems clear that a trend towards more sedentariness and less commuter mobility should also receive political support. After all, it could contribute to a decisive reduction in the ecological footprint.
