Interest rates are rising and building materials are expensive. Only high earners can afford to own a house or an apartment. The state of Brandenburg wants to support families in acquiring property.
Lower-income families are set to benefit from a new state home ownership program. It allows grants of up to 30,000 euros for energy-saving construction and loans with an interest rate of 0.5 percent. Applications for this can be submitted to the investment development bank of the state ILB.
The state supported the construction of rental apartments with around 180 million euros
There, the demand for subsidies for housing has increased, as the bank announced at its annual press conference on Wednesday. In 2022, almost 400 million euros were committed in housing subsidies. 176 million euros in state funding went into the creation and modernization of price-controlled rental apartments.
Corona emergency aid – how much money was repaid
But the bank got the money back. Recipients of the Corona emergency aid paid back around 184 million euros voluntarily or after a random check. In connection with the emergency aid, 281 criminal proceedings are still ongoing and 81 proceedings have been completed. In view of the 66,000 commitments for emergency aid, this number is low, according to the ILB.
