READY: Shut down after the match penalty – so far the penalty will be

Brendan Gaunce was forced to leave the ice with a match penalty during yesterday’s quarterfinal meeting with Färjestad.
It is now clear that the forward will be suspended for two matches and forced to pay a fine of SEK 6,250.

Växjö forward Brendan Gaunce incurred a match penalty during yesterday’s third quarter-final meeting with Färjestad, something that the Canadian now certainly regrets in retrospect.

It was in the middle of the third period that Gaunce and Färjestad’s captain, Victor Ejdsell ended up in a close battle for the puck. Gaunce got the club between Ejdsell’s legs and then pulled it straight up, which made Ejdsell fall to the ice in pain.

After being reported to the disciplinary committee, it is now clear that the 27-year-old will be allowed to rest in tonight’s return meeting with Färjestad, in another match and fined SEK 6,250, the SHL announced on Wednesday.

Gaunce has so far been an important player for Växjö in the playoffs and logged a lot of ice time. The Canadian forward has also managed to score three points in three matches but is now forced to involuntary rest.
