Ready for New Challenges: Former Coach of FCK, Strasser

You are now back in Luxembourg. How did that happen?

In 2016 I successfully completed my football teacher license with the DFB. Before my engagement in Kaiserslautern in 2017, I worked as a trainer in Luxembourg for seven years. Today I work at Progres Niederkorn in the first Luxembourg league. This is professional work – on a semi-professional level.

What do you mean?

The Luxembourg league is a semi-professional league. The league evolves year after year. We have guys who can make a living from football and others who work or study. We have a mix of amateurs and professionals.

Is that sporty?

We are third in the table and want to play internationally. That’s always possible, at least the qualification for the Conference Ligue. That is both the goal of the club and my personal goal.

Are you personally satisfied with what you are doing in Luxembourg at the moment?

I feel absolutely comfortable here at the moment because we have built something interesting. In general, I always want to be successful and bring things to a successful conclusion. In the end you always want to hold something in your hands and win something. That’s a good thing, because it always drives you.

What is your motivation?

I want to achieve the club’s goals and develop the boys further, make them better. My goal is to work as a trainer again at a professional level in the near future. So at the level I’ve trained at before, in the second division or in the Bundesliga. At some point the Luxembourg national team will also be an issue.

In which period?

I’ve decided to stay here this year and probably next. Then comes the time when my two sons, who are nine and eleven years old, are at an age when I can go abroad again. After my time in Kaiserslautern, that was exactly one reason I went back to work in Luxembourg: to be close to my family.
