Ready for a comeback on “Wetten,dass..?”

Thomas Gottschalk shows willingness to return to the ZDF show ‘Wetten,dass..?’. But ZDF doesn’t seem interested.

Cologne – Thomas Gottschalk, who was the face of the ZDF show “Wetten,dass..?” for decades and achieved cult status on German television, said goodbye in November 2023 with an emotional farewell broadcast that was seen by over twelve million viewers was passed. Since then, there has been continued speculation as to whether the 74-year-old presenter would ever return to the show. Now Gottschalk himself has given an answer to this question.

In a recent conversation on the podcast “Bosbach & Rach – Die Wochentester”, Gottschalk expressed his willingness to take over moderation of the show again. “If it were desired, I would be the last person to refuse,” said the former “Wetten, dass..?” moderator.

Despite his openness to a return, Gottschalk expressed doubts that ZDF was actually interested in reviving the show with him as presenter. “ZDF has my phone number. And ZDF would have reported this long ago if this opinion existed. But it doesn’t exist, and I think that’s a mistake,” the 74-year-old explained further in the podcast.

On November 25, 2023, Gottschalk said goodbye to “Wetten,dass..?” after more than 30 years with what was officially the last edition. He had previously announced that he wanted to end his career on the stage after the publication of his book “Unfiltered: Confessions of Someone Who Can’t Keep His Mouth Shut” – which was published on October 16th.

Whether there will actually be a comeback on “Wetten,dass..?” is still up in the air. But one thing is clear: Thomas Gottschalk still has a lot to say.

In addition to his book, Gottschalk is currently causing a stir with an interview in which he talked about sexism on “Wetten,dass..?”.
