Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Minister of SOEs Eric Thohir suddenly changed the position of the President Director of PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) or PLN from Zulkifli Zaini to Darmawan Prasodjo. The direct replacement was held at the General Meeting of Shareholders (GMS) on Monday (6/12) yesterday.
It’s not really clear what Erick’s reason for replacing Zulkifli was. According to records, the performance of the state-owned stun company was actually quite good in the era of the former banker’s leadership.
This is reflected in the company’s financial performance, such as the company’s net profit which rose 39.3 percent to Rp5.99 trillion in 2020 and the debt ratio decreased by around Rp452.4 trillion.
In fact, he assessed that Zulkifli was able to transform PLN in the midst of the task of distributing electricity discounts to 31.4 million customers in 2020 and 32.6 million customers in 2021 when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out.
“Mr. Zulkifli Zaini, who has served since December 2019, I believe that he has led a company that serves the needs of all Indonesian people with heart and sincerity,” said Erick during the handover of the position as President Director of PLN.
Therefore, he thanked Zulkifli for his contribution to state companies so far. As for the change, Erick did not reveal the details of the reason. He only left a few messages to Darmawan.
One of them is so that Darmawan can start to improve his business model and make PLN more effective. In addition, so that companies can accelerate their business in the face of new trends such as the electric vehicle ecosystem.
“The energy transition carried out by PLN needs a breakthrough so that it does not burden the state and society,” he added.
Meanwhile, Darmawan revealed that there were three special tasks that Erick had entrusted to him. “Earlier, the Minister (Erick) only gave me the task as the main director and the existing directors that this has tasks and please carry out,” said Darmawan.
First, solve the problem of oversupply of electricity (oversupply) by diverting public consumption from gas stoves to electricity. Likewise with the consumption of fuel vehicles to electric cars.
Second, the transition of fossil energy to new and renewable energy (EBT), but in ways that do not burden the state budget. Third, manage PLN’s debt, although in the Zulkifli era there has been a decline.
