Readers Forum: New Cycle Paths via Emergency Legislation?

To the article “Why Zeller Straße became a one-way street” from May 25th:

In the context of the emergency laws, the corona pandemic, so-called pop-up cycle paths were set up as temporary cycling infrastructure in some cities weeks ago. The aim here was to maintain spatial spacing in order to minimize the risk of infection from the corona virus. Such cycle paths do not have a permanent existence, they should only ensure relief of local public transport for a short time during the pandemic.

The establishment of such pop-up cycle paths would have made sense at the beginning or at the height of the pandemic.

At the present time, where the restrictions due to the corona pandemic are gradually being brought back to normal, such pop-up cycle paths in Würzburg are probably superfluous.

The entire campaign seems to want to sneak a few bike trails in the long run using so-called emergency measures. Downtown Würzburg and its businesses have suffered enough from the corona pandemic and urgently need help to get back on their feet. Such senseless measures would only worsen the general situation in downtown Würzburg.
