Romeo Vermant: “Logical victory for us”
Club Brugge took a deserved three-pointer when they visited Westerlo. Even though he did not manage to score, Romeo Vermant still spoke to the press after the match with a big smile: “I am indeed standing here with a very good feeling. Initially, we scored three very important points today, while I was allowed to start in the starting eleven for the first time. And this against the team where I was allowed to work last season and which gave me the opportunity to gain the necessary first experience at the highest level.”
Vermant also gave a clear answer about the match itself: “I think the victory was well deserved, because we had complete control over the match. We use the spaces between the lines very well and before half an hour you reach 0-2. Then we make things unnecessarily difficult for ourselves again. Nevertheless, we played it out in a mature way in the second half. What else could be improved? There may be several factors that can be identified. In addition to a number of injured people, you also have quite a few international players returning from international commitments, which means that the preparation cannot really be called optimal. This is not an excuse but could be a possible explanation. We also know that we have not yet reached our very best level and that we are not playing the best football. But all in all, I thought Club played nice football at times today, so the victory is logical.” (MV)
Nicky Hayen: “We need to finalize matches faster”
Blauw-Zwart scored an important three-pointer against Westerlo and coach Hayen was satisfied with this. “I think we are starting the match very well,” the Bruges coach starts. “We tried to eliminate Westerlo’s counters and we were well organised. In addition, we always tried to find the footballing solution and we found it effective at that moment. We took a good lead with a long shot from Jorne Spileers that went in. After that we were able to score the second very quickly, but then we made the mistake again by doing other things. Then you just give oxygen directly to the others. I think every chance for Westerlo came because of technical mistakes we made Then you can say that we have to press, but this is simply a matter of technical errors and then you give away opportunities. Then that tying goal comes just before half-time and you just know that if they play to their own spy head, you will be in danger. Then they get chances, but we also get chances at 1-3. You just have to be more efficient with both Vermant’s and Jutglà’s chances finish, but now it was shivering again until the last second. Then you need an ultimate save from Maxim De Cuyper on the line or a ball that can still fall at any time. So we have to be able to finalize those matches more quickly.” A nice match against AC Milan follows on Tuesday. “I said in advance that the focus should not be placed on Tuesday. From past experiences I know how difficult it is for Club to gain points here. So it was just a matter of getting the three points here and preferably in a positive way. Ultimately, objective number one was achieved. In any case, it is an important diptych and it is of course not a lie that you are looking forward to Tuesday, the Champions League match against AC Milan. However, let us say that the relief will come first and then the focus will be shifted to Tuesday. Of course, you will always continue to work in any situation. I also mentioned how important this triptych was and you are happy that you have already completed it successfully. Again, Tuesday is of course a different match, but the next match against Anderlecht is at least as important or even more important. They lost yesterday and also want to get their backs on us and we should hopefully take advantage of this and just continue,” concludes Nicky Hayen.
