From August 15 to 20, the contemporary circus and street art festival “Re Rīga!” will take place in Riga Circus and Vērmanes Garden. This year, the main focus will be on clowning, object manipulation and juggling performances.
This summer the festival “Re Rīga!” will be held for the 11th time and will invite you to salt bread in the recently renovated Riga Circus Arena, where the “arrival theme” will be celebrated – the return to renovated homes, arrival to a new or already familiar land and arrival to an unusual and perhaps even impossible world.
The festival program includes both paid and free performances, as well as performances aimed at families, teenagers and adults. This time the guests will be from different regions of the world – Spain, France, Sweden, Finland, Argentina and the Baltic countries.
“Re Riga!” creative director Mārtiņš Ķibers reminds that initially the festival was intended as a one-time warm-up event for Riga as the European Capital of Culture, but thanks to the huge response of the public, it has become an annual event. “After a long time, artists from different parts of the world are coming to the festival – Sufis, clowns and retro characters from the last century. In addition, this is the arrival and return of the festival to the already renovated Riga Circus Arena, which allows for much more powerful performances than before.”
It should be noted that the festival program also includes several free master classes – for existing and future circus artists, who are offered the opportunity to get to know contemporary juggling, as well as the creation of performances outside the designated premises. There is also a special masterclass for new performing artists, while existing and aspiring performing arts critics will have access to a circus critique masterclass.
