Over the weekend, the Latvian National Theater will feature a reunion concert by Maestro Raimonds Pauls and world-famous opera singer Elīna Garanča “If You Weren’t.” Due to the pandemic, the concert postponed from January is planned as a celebration of Maestro’s 85th anniversary, and it will be an opportunity to hear new and well-known Maestro compositions in a new arrangement, says TV3 News.
Due to the pandemic, the concert postponed from January is intended as a celebration of the 85th anniversary of Maestro. The Sinfonietta Rīga Chamber Orchestra with Normunds Šnē at the conductor’s desk and an instrumental group led by Raimonds Macata will also take part in it.
“Thank God we can finally take him out again so that people can hear. There is a lot of work to be done there, and I wanted to, maybe in a bigger room, in the hall, ”says Maestro Raimonds Pauls.
Maestro has invited the outstanding opera singer Elīna Garančs to her anniversary concert, dedicating two song cycles to her with poetry by Vizma Belševica and Ojārs Vācietis. The famous artist calls this concert the fulfillment of her dreams: “I remember Maestro when I was still walking full-length under the table. I used to want to sing “In the Bumps and Sneakers”, I was denied, I was told not to spoil the voice, but at home I had such a dream – to sing several pieces of Maestro cinema and theater music. “
The reunion of Maestro and Elīna Garanča will be heard and watched at the National Theater on Friday and Saturday, July 23 and 24. The second part of the concert includes songs from movies and theater performances with the music of Raimonds Pauls, for which new arrangements are created by composers, each outstanding in their field, Lolita Ritmane, Rihards Dubra, Jēkabs Jančevskis and Raimonds Macats.
The world-famous opera singer also calls this concert program a great challenge: “The fact that Maestro has written ten new songs for me, for my voice, is wonderful, and I am extremely satisfied and grateful. The second part is the songs we’ve all heard in movies or theater shows, and it’s probably the “Carrey song” I remember the most, and I’ve always thought that it would be perfect to stand on stage and sing that song. “
At the same time, it is a great thrill that in a year and a half you will be able to see the audience in your face again.
Maestro will continue its 85th anniversary celebrations in the new week with the concert “Fourth Wave”, opening the Jurmala Festival. Paul’s popular and popular songs will be performed by a rich bouquet of soloists.
It’s an entertainment concert, not for nothing I call it the “Fourth Wave”, so everyone thinks what they want. Why those waves should be just bad. It can be a fun entertainment event to which I invited my former colleagues: sing what has ever brought you success yourself!
