Sergey Kostomarov, father of the Olympic ice dancing champion of Turin Roman Kostomarov, declared “Match TV” that “everything is fine” with his son.
“It’s all right,” he said. To a clarifying question whether he had time to talk with Roman and what his condition was, Sergey replied: “Everything is positive.”
The day before, RBC Sport sources reported that Kostomarov was in a stable condition, but he would have to stay in the intensive care unit for a long time. According to them, the skater no longer needs a tracheostomy, but still remains in the intensive care unit.

Kostomarov has been in Kommunarka since January 10, where he was hospitalized due to pneumonia. The head physician of the hospital, Denis Protsenko, said on February 16 that the 46-year-old skater had a total lung lesion on admission due to a viral and bacterial infection with minimal chances of survival.
Various media reported that during this time Kostomarov underwent several amputations on the hands and feet, as well as two strokes. There was no official information from the skater’s family about this.
Kostomarov, paired with Tatyana Navka, won gold at the Turin Olympics, as well as the 2004 and 2005 World Championships and three European championships.
