The International Olympic Committee (IOC) believes that the Ukrainian government’s decision to ban the country’s athletes from competing alongside Russians will only harm the Ukrainian sports community. About it “RIA Novosti” IOC press release said.

“If such a decision is implemented, it will only harm the Ukrainian sports community and in no way affect the cessation of hostilities, which the IOC so vehemently condemns. We have always argued that governments should not decide which athletes can participate in international competitions, ”the IOC press service said.

The IOC also noted that many Ukrainian athletes and members of the country’s Olympic community oppose the boycott of tournaments.

Ukrainian athletes were banned from participating in the selection for the Olympic Games with the Russians

Earlier, the government of Ukraine banned the country’s athletes from participating in those qualifying competitions for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, in which Russian athletes will take part.

On March 28, the IOC, following a meeting of the Executive Committee, recommended that Russian athletes be admitted to international competitions under a neutral flag. These recommendations do not apply to Russians participating in team sports, as well as those athletes who actively support the special operation in Ukraine and are related to the Russian army and other law enforcement agencies. The decision on the admission of athletes will be made by the international federations.

These recommendations do not apply to the upcoming Olympic Games. A decision on them will be made later.
