After the coup against first division team Essen, the second division footballers from RB Leipzig should not be over in the semi-finals of the DFB Cup. “Now everything is possible, we can beat anyone if we hit the ground running and are a bit lucky,” said double goalscorer Vanessa Fudalla after the furious 6-1 win against Essen. It was amazing that it worked out that way. Coach Saban Uzun doesn’t slow down the imagination of his players either: “Now the tough stuff is coming, but dreaming is allowed.”
Alongside Leipzig, Bayern Munich, VfL Wolfsburg and SC Freiburg are in the semi-finals. The pairings will be drawn on Sunday (5:15 p.m. / Sky) by long-standing Bundesliga coach Mirko Slomka. The games are scheduled for April 15th to 17th, the final will take place on May 18th in Cologne.
In the round of 16, second division table leaders Leipzig eliminated a Bundesliga team in Eintracht Frankfurt. The next surprise followed against Essen. “6-1 sounds sensational, and it is, but we’ve proven this season that we can deliver such performances. It’s nice that our win against Frankfurt in the previous round wasn’t a flash in the pan,” said defender Johanna Kaiser. (dpa)
