The 35-year-old was Julian Nagelsmann’s assistant coach at RB Leipzig and is about to start his first job as a professional on the line.

Klauß: “I am very grateful to RB Leipzig for giving me the opportunity to take on the role at 1. FC Nürnberg. It is important to me to emphasize that I am leaving Leipzig completely on good terms, that I have made many friends and that the club will always be part of it I have a place in my heart. I had a great time here and was able to experience and shape the rise of the club for eleven years and from different perspectives. Now I’m looking forward to the new challenge and of course to seeing you again in the DFB Cup in September . “

RB Leipzig’s sports director Markus Krösche also commented on the change: “Robert Klauss was able to gain experience at a high level at RB Leipzig and has developed excellently. It is therefore not surprising that he has sparked interest from other clubs He can now take the next step for FC Nürnberg. We wanted to give him this chance and wish Robert all the best.

A few days after the new sports director Dieter Hecking took up his duties, the second important personnel issue at the “Club” has been resolved. The nine-time German champions recently avoided relegation to the 3rd division only with a goal in stoppage time of the relegation. Head coach Jens Keller was already released, interim coach Michael Wiesinger didn’t want to stay long-term.

The task of leading the FCN back up is now waiting for the designated new coach Klauss. Sports director Hecking had already emphasized at his presentation at the Valznerweiher at the beginning of the week that he saw the “club” much higher up than before.

When asked whether the aim is to stabilize the club first, he replied: “Stabilizing would be too humble. The club is better than 16th place in the 2nd division, that’s clear to all of us.” For him, Nuremberg belongs in the Bundesliga, where he was FCN coach for three years.

After his active football career in lower leagues in 2010, Klauß joined Leipzig as a youth coach and worked his way up through the U17 and U19 to the professionals. In July 2018 Rangnick brought him to the Bundesliga team, where he now had his second season behind him. Most recently, the native of Eberswalde, who completed the DFB football teacher training course as the best in 2018, prepared RB for the Champions League final tournament at Nagelsmann’s side.

The 35-year-old prevailed against other candidates at the trainer casting in Nuremberg, according to media reports, the former Darmstadt Dimitrios Grammozis was also a candidate for the job. The former star striker Marek Mintal, who trains the U21s and was Wiesinger’s assistant in the relegation, is said to have been interested in being promoted to head coach of the professionals.
