Failed again in the final: RB Leipzig said goodbye to the season without a title. An evening to forget for the Nagelsmann-Elf.
Berlin / Leipzig – If they have found sleep, some players will wake up from RB Leipzig this morning must have happened with a big stone in my stomach. The renewed defeat in DFB Cup Final hurts a lot – new coach Jesse Marsch (47) expects a lot of work in the summer.

A slightly lowered gear, an expression that reveals everything and the realization that you can just walk past the gold cup, but not lift it up: Julian Nagelsmann (33), who is still Leipzig, was extremely disappointed at the award ceremony.
His team had knocked out everything shortly before, but failed in the end against an ice-cold Borussia Dortmund and again because of their own efficiency, which had already been much criticized this season.
1: 4 defeat in Berlin, the first title for the Red Bulls is a long way off again. “It hurts, it’s a painful moment. I would have liked to have won the title, even if I had remained a coach here for 28 years. That has nothing to do with my departure,” said Nagelsmann in an interview that evening and sums it up:

“We had a lot of good situations. Dortmund had three and scores three goals.” Like last weekend at Signal Iduna Park, RB Leipzig defeated themselves mostly in the first half. Again an early goal, again hardly any penetration in the last third and individual mistakes that should not happen in a final.
“We had good possession, but we weren’t determined enough in the final third,” said captain Marcel Sabitzer (27) after the game. “It just can’t happen that you let yourself be countered four times like that.”

Just like two years ago, when the Leipzig team sang 3-0 against FC Bayern Munich at the DFB Cup final in Berlin and went down without a sound, there is still a lot to work on in the aftermath. “We are here for the second time in three years and have been on the sack for the second time,” says RB boss Oliver Mintzlaff (45).
It will be exciting to see whether Julian Nagelsmann can flip the switch on his players again by Sunday when the almost insignificant Bundesliga game at home against VfL Wolfsburg takes place (8.30 p.m. / Sky).
After all, it will be the last home game that the coach will experience with the Bulls. The motivation could possibly be at least the second half against BVB, in which the team showed their morale and could even have made a comeback.

Nagelsmann: “After the break, where we were extremely good, we have a hundred percent chance after 25 seconds, we don’t. I have to compliment the team on how they reacted in character.”

It will still take a while for the entire team to get this final out of their heads. But as the saying goes: All good things come in threes. Maybe RB Leipzig can win the title in the next final. If then without Julian Nagelsmann as a trainer.
