Xavi Simons will have less competition within six months: Leipzig sends player back

RB Leipzig will not continue with Fábio Carvalho after the winter break, the club announced on Sunday via official channels. The Liverpool loanee was actually supposed to stay in Leipzig until the end of the current season, but the parties ended the collaboration prematurely. It is not clear why the midfielder is being sent back during the winter break.
“Fábio Carvalho will return to Liverpool with immediate effect,” the club said in a press release. “RB Leipzig and the Premier League club are ending the one-year loan period for the attacking player early. All the best for your future journey!”
Last season, the attacking midfielder did not get much time to play for the Reds, who decided to store him in Germany to get more playing time. However, with Xavi Simons as a competitor, Carvalho also appeared to be able to make few minutes at RB Leipzig.
Spread over 15 official matches, Carvalho only managed 360 minutes. In those matches, the Portuguese youth international did not score and provided no assists.
Carvalho moved from Fulham to Liverpool in the summer of 2022 for a fee of almost six million euros. In his first year he made thirteen appearances in the Premier League and scored twice.
He attracted the attention of the absolute top clubs in his successful year at Fulham. As a nineteen-year-old player, he led his team in the Championship and was involved in no fewer than eighteen goals: ten goals and eight assists.
Transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano adds to RB Leipzig’s reporting that Jürgen Klopp will not bring him into the group and that he can look forward to a new rental period. Romano reports that Southampton, among others, is interested in Carvalho’s services.
