RB Leipzig has the best chances against Cologne and missed their next home win

Leipzig – No home win, no Christmas champion! RB Leipzig has on 13. Bundesliga matchday against the 1. FC Cologne Despite the best of opportunities, they only achieved a 0-0 win and missed the opportunity to start the new year as the front runner.

Compared to the narrow 1-0 win at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim during the week, RB coach Julian Nagelsmann switched to three positions: Marcel Halstenberg, Tyler Adams and Amadou Haidara came for Ibrahima Konaté (not in the squad), Dani Olmo and Emil Forsberg (both bench).
Effzeh coach Markus Gisdol even made another change after the 4-0 draw against Bayer 04 Leverkusen: Noah Katterbach, Jorge Meré, Dominick Drexler and Ondrej Duda for Jannes Horn (bank), Sava-Arangel Cestic, Ismail Jakobs and Sebastian Andersson ( all not in the roster).
It went straight forward on the Leipzig side: After a sloppy tee shot by FC keeper Timo Horn, Angelino intercepted the ball, passed Yussuf Poulsen, Marcel Sabitzer, who was also running, put in the penalty area over to the free Haidara, who pushed in. However, Sabitzer was offside, goal did not count (2.).
In the early stages, you could hardly see that the Cologne team, who accrued in yellow, got eight of their ten points on unfamiliar terrain and so far felt more comfortable away.

In the Leipzig game setup, the guests stood with man and mouse in their own half, minimizing the pass opportunities for the opponent, but were rarely able to push through when winning the ball.
From the 25th minute onwards, the Bulls managed to radiate more danger forward and demand the Cologne defense.
Kevin Kampl started with a cross from the right wing into the backcourt, where Ellyes Skhiri hit the ball, Haidara came to the end from a half-right position, but only hit the side netting (26th).
Then Haidara was again in the middle, who won a ball on the sideline in the opposing half and crossed it directly. Horn fended off very unhappily in the middle, where Angelino immediately pulled, but Meré threw himself in and let the ball fly over the bar (33rd).
The last big chance in Leipzig had Angelino again, who was served wonderfully from the left by Kampl and took a few steps. Goalkeeper Horn skillfully shortened the angle and blocked the shot (36th).
Out of the blue, the Gisdol team still had a big thing up their sleeves: After a cross from the left, Dayot Upamecano let the play equipment through and Drexler shot a little surprised while moving clearly next to the box (39th).

Inspired by two away wins in a row, the billy goats made life difficult for the bulls at the beginning of the second section.
The offensive actions still belonged to the home side, who came to a good conclusion in the 56th minute with Emil Forsberg, who came on for Poulsen, but who missed after Angelino’s submission again.
Ten minutes later, a wonderful Leipzig combination followed, at the end of which Nordi Mukiele crossed Kampl in the sixteenth, but who shot over it with a direct decrease (66th).
Subsequently, Olmo also gave away with a flick from the edge of the box (70th) and Willi Orban with his head after a corner (72nd).
Over time, RB became more and more superior, but missed the winning goal and thus the tenth home win in the tenth competitive game. The Champions League round of 16 also missed the opportunity to start the new year as Christmas champion.
The last competitive game of the year for both teams is on Tuesday (6.30 p.m. / Sky) in DFB-Pokal to move into the last sixteen. Leipzig has to go to FC Augsburg, Cologne has against Second division VfL Osnabrück home law.
