RB Leipzig Defeats Bayern Munich 3-0 in DFL Supercup: Match Analysis and Thomas Tuchel’s Reaction

The German champions suffered a hefty 0:3 (0:2) defeat in the DFL Supercup against cup winners RB Leipzig in the Allianz Arena at home. Kane, who only officially switched on Saturday, missed his first chance at a title with FCB.

Dani Olmo put Leipzig ahead after just three minutes after a ricochet, just before the break he increased the lead to 2-0 with a real magic goal (44th minute). Shortly after Kane came on, the Spaniard even added the third goal with a penalty (68th).

Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel raged on Sky: “We give away the simplest goals – as if we hadn’t done anything for four weeks. That is shocking. I don’t recognize anything of what we trained.”

And further: “I have no solution now. I am shocked. We will find hundreds of error images. As soon as we have something to lose, it’s not the same squad anymore.”

After the early shock from Olmo, Bayern had a number of great chances – but missed them all. So the first half became a single argument for Kane.

The designated goalscorer had to watch from the bench as first Serge Gnabry (10th) and then twice Mathys Tel (16th/24th) failed. In addition, RB defender Mohamed Simakan deflected a ball to his own post (28th).

Bayern remained vulnerable at the back and were repeatedly put under severe pressure by the RB offensive with strong newcomers Lois Openda and Xavi Simons.

The efforts of the Red Bull club were then refined again by Olmo: the Spaniard turned in the penalty area with a brilliant ball control around the too passive Matthijs de Ligt and then also tunneled Sven Ulreich in the Bayern goal.

After the break, Bayern continued to attack: Sané (48th) missed, Gnabry played too imprecisely on the completely free Tel (50th), Jamal Musiala missed (58th) – and the south curve loudly demanded Kane with chants.

In the 64th minute the time had finally come: After the 30-year-old had waited for minutes on the sidelines in the Allianz Arena amid loud cheers, he finally came into the game for Tel – and the whole stadium got up.

However, it was even worse for Bayern afterwards: Olmo scored his third goal from the penalty spot after a handball by substitute Noussair Mazraoui – the 0:3 from Bayern’s point of view should also be the final result.

Tuchel even felt sorry for Kane. “I’m sorry. He must think we haven’t trained at all. It’s a very bitter evening for him and I’m sorry,” he added to Sat1.
