The 33-year-old will be on the sidelines for the very last time as coach of RB Leipzig and even in front of 2,000 spectators – but in the old forestry department.
Although the Union fans are usually not so friendly to the cops, after so many months it will probably be a special atmosphere. “It is important and nice that we are all returning a bit to normal,” said Nagelsmann on Thursday.
His time at RB Leipzig was also special and, despite all the pain of separation, it should of course end with a victory. “If we still get the three points against Union, then that would be by far the best season in the history of RB Leipzig,” said the 33-year-old with a view to the possible 68 points in the table.

So far, Nagelsmann has only had positive experiences against the Berliners. RB always emerged victorious from three Bundesliga duels. He also made his debut for Leipzig with the Iron – at that time they won 4-0.
Surely an equally worthy conclusion should be here, especially after you have already done the last home game against VfL Wolfsburg with a 2: 2 had been able to finish.

This task is unlikely to be easy. For one thing, Union has not lost the last 15 games in the home stadium. On the other hand, coach Urs Fischer (55) and his team can qualify for participation in the UEFA Europa Conference League with a win – the motivation should be great.
Nagelsmann also found words of praise for the strong season in Berlin: “Union Berlin is rightly in seventh place in the table. When you see how Urs Fischer works with his team and how unbelievable the team spirit is in Köpenick, they could even get more been.”
But his team also played a great season: “This season in particular, we have improved all statistical values and consolidated our structures. Our defense was one of the best in the league, Peter Gulacsi was often able to keep zero.”

Since Gulacsi (30) said goodbye to the season early, Josep Martinez (22) will make his debut against Union. Tyler Adams (22), Dani Olmo (23) and Angelino (24) are plagued with injuries and will not be in the squad, as are the long-term injuries Lazar Samardzic (19) and Dominik Szoboszlai (20).
Nagelsmann said goodbye to everyone last Wednesday at a meal together. A few tears were even shed. “It’s never easy to say goodbye,” said the 33-year-old and added: “But you always see each other twice in life.” He wishes his players and the club all the best.
