Runner-up RB Leipzig is the first Bundesliga club to defend itself against the corona restrictions on the admission of spectators.
As the association announced, an application for “issuance of an interim order” was made in an expedited procedure at the Saxon Higher Administrative Court in Bautzen. In contrast to the situation in other federal states, where significantly more fans are allowed into the stadium again, there is currently an upper limit of a maximum of 1000 people in Saxony.
“RB Leipzig hopes that in this way a decision that is factually fair, justified and understandable for all sides and at the same time a solution with regard to the current extreme restriction on spectators at home games” can be obtained in the short term,” the brief statement said. RB will play next Saturday (6.30 p.m. / Sky) first at FC Bayern – the next home game is on February 11 against 1. FC Köln.
Mintzlaff: “Corporate Responsibility”
RB boss Oliver Mintzlaff had announced the step in a “Bild” interview. “Because that’s part of our corporate responsibility,” said the 46-year-old. There were and are similar considerations at several other clubs – Borussia Dortmund’s managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke had also aggressively announced the legal examination of the Corona regulation in North Rhine-Westphalia. In principle, only 750 spectators are currently allowed in the stadiums.
Lawyers had recently given a lawsuit a chance of success. If the current corona restrictions remain, several thousand fans would cheer in some stadiums on the coming match day after the international break – and in others only a few hundred.
At the last Corona conference, the federal and state governments decided on Monday that because of the Omicron variant, opening steps for major events would be delayed – uniform rules should be agreed by February 9th. As a result, however, the admission of up to 10,000 people (maximum 25 percent of the total capacity) was already permitted in Bavaria. The state government in Baden-Württemberg followed with a decision.
The dashboard of the Robert Koch Institute showed a seven-day incidence of 597.8 for Saxony on Saturday, and the district of Leipzig had a value of 803.1. The current Corona Ordinance of the federal state is valid until February 6th.
