Razer Zephyr mask sold out ‘within minutes’ | Hardware

The Razer Zephyr was originally unveiled as Project Hazel, during CES 2021. The concept product attracted a lot of attention, after which Razer decided to actually take the mouth mask into mass production. As a result, a “beta” was announced over the summer and Razer renamed the Project Hazel denominator Zephyr.

The final version of Zephyr was shown at the in-house RazerCon. The physical design has been slightly modified, the integrated microphone-speaker combination has been dropped, but the promise of a high-tech mask has remained intact. The Zephyr currently carries a suggested retail price of $99.99.

On among others Twitter Razer informed that the first Zephyr run had already sold out. Not much later, the message followed that a second edition should go on sale today; interested parties can request an automatic notification on the Razer-website.

Complaints about the sales process are circulating around Razer’s social channels. Some gamers never got a notification of the news, others complain about substandard measures against scalpers. For now, it’s unclear how large Razer’s print runs will be — let alone how much of it will be sold outside of Asia and the US.

The Razer Zephyr is marketed as an air-filtering face mask, with replaceable air filters with 99% BFE protection. Two fans amplify the airflow within the mask, while the RGB lighting gives the device a gamer-esque touch.

The Zephyr should (without Chroma lighting and ‘Low-Energy’ ventilation) last about eight hours, according to Razer. The self-cleaning carrying case that was unveiled at CES 2021 seems to have expired, as does the built-in voice amplification.
