Spiked polling rate is one of several features that accessory makers like to boast about, including Razer. There, the function is marketed under the slogan “Hyperpolling Technology” and increased frequency is found in a handful of the company’s mice and keyboards. Now another lineup gets mice higher polling rate – this time via software update.
Increased polling rate means that information about button presses can be registered and sent on to the computer more often. The most common is that this is done once per millisecond (0.001 second), corresponding to 1,000 Hz. The update adds an 8,000 Hz mode, meaning reporting every eighth of a millisecond (0.000125 seconds).
Razer compares 1,000 Hz to 8,000 Hz.
The update is available for Viper V2 Pro, Deathadder V3 Pro, Cobra Pro, Basilisk V3 Pro and Viper V3 Hyperspeed. All are wireless and according to Razer, the increase in polling rate together with the “Hyperspeed” technology in the associated USB receivers reduce or completely eliminate so-called micro-stuttering. With the help of Razer’s software, it is also possible to adjust the frequency yourself in the range 125–8,000 Hz.
