Razer Introduces Edge and Edge 5G Android Gaming Handhelds – Games – News

I think it really depends on how you play your games. They advertise 4K at 144fps, I think it’s cutting it. At 4K you’re quickly at around 16GB per hour and that’s still 60fps. Now it will only be on an external monitor where you will still have WiFi (with hopefully decent speed) but again the screen is 2400×1080.

At 2400×1080 I only expect around 3.75GB per hour of data usage, so it won’t be that bad. The supplements are good for less than an hour of streaming, which is a shame, so games all day are not included. Only when you connect the object to an external display as advertised can it be noticeably taller.

On the other hand, this is a collaborative launch with Verizon. The “unlimited” plan that Verizon claims has the following footnote:

After exceeding 50GB / month of 5G Ultra Wideband, 5G Nationwide or 4G LTE data, you can still use the hotspot at lower speeds of 3Mbps on 5G Ultra Wideband and 600Kbps on 5G Nationwide / 4G LTE for the rest of the month. Access to 5G requires a 5G compatible device.

Those 3 Mbps won’t make your experience great and that’s on UWB, which almost requires direct line of sight; You won’t be playing at 600 Kbps at all. So effectively you get about 13 hours of mobile gameplay per month at 2400×1080. For a subscription in the US you pay $ 90 per month before tax etc., then effectively you pay for a completely new Razer Edge every four months. The costs will be slightly lower if you already save on another subscription for your mobile, but data in the US is still extremely expensive compared to the Netherlands.

In the Netherlands it would be possible, but in the US, where this thing is actually sold, I don’t see the value.
