Raymond Johansen gets a thumbs up from Oslo’s population in Nettavisen’s new corona poll.
The capital has more or less been closed down since November. The last bright spot was barely traceable in the summer. But it’s been a long time coming.
After the British mutant took over Oslo, infection rates have skyrocketed. District Stovner has passed 1662 infected per 100,000 inhabitants in the last two weeks. In comparison, the country as a whole is 227 infected per 100,000 inhabitants.
The figures have led the city council to implement the strictest measures since March last year. In addition, the city council has implemented its own school closure for the six districts with the highest infection.
In Nettavisen’s new corona poll, however, the city council leader gets good shots from the population. On a scale from 0-100, Oslo Municipality’s handling of the infection is ranked 69. When asked specifically about Johansen’s handling, the number increases to 72.
– Made me a little relieved
The survey was conducted by Sentio with 815 respondents in the period 12 – 16 March.
The municipality also receives positive feedback on the information about the coronavirus. With a score of 78, residents are very satisfied with the information.
– This is very nice. I must say that this measurement made me a little relieved. Because we have kept this going for a long time with very intrusive measures, says city council leader Raymond Johansen (Labor Party) to Nettavisen.
The seas: Alarms about the kindergartens: – We are approaching a limit
The measurement is a real vitamin injection for those who govern the city from the town hall tower.
– I interpret the survey as meaning that the measures we have introduced, and the way we have handled it, are in line with what people expect of us. I’m very happy about that. We are completely dependent on the handling having the support of the population. After all, we will get people to follow rules that are very intrusive in their lives, he says.
Only ten per cent state that they are “very” or “somewhat” dissatisfied with Raymond Johansen’s handling of the corona situation. As many as 65 percent say very or somewhat satisfied.
The latest move by the city council was to close the schools for 5th – 7th grade in the districts with by far the most infection. Here, too, there is great support among the population. 68 percent say it was right, against 20 percent who say no. 11 percent say do not know.
– This strong support means that you should have made this move earlier?
– Well, there have been various measures between the districts for a long time. We have much more testing and outreach activities in the most infected districts. So we reinforced this by not having a physical attendance at 5th – 7th grade in the most vulnerable districts, Johansen explains.

85 percent will take the vaccine
He believes that there are large differences in the district that are particularly well expressed during the pandemic.
In general, the people of Oslo are quite positive about taking the vaccine. In the city as a whole, 85 percent state that they will take the vaccine when they are offered it. But in some groups, skepticism is greater.
It is in the Stovner district, which has the greatest infection pressure that is also most skeptical of the vaccine. Here, only 67 percent say yes to the question of whether they want to be vaccinated when they receive the offer.
When asked why people do not want to take the vaccine, it is first and foremost the side effects that stand out. Of those who say no to being vaccinated, 63 per cent say it is either because they are “afraid of the side effects” or because they want to “know more about possible side effects”.

The city council leader explains that the vaccine skepticism has not been noticed in practice yet.
– The support among those who are actually called to the vaccine is very high. But it is clear that the skepticism that is coming now we must face with knowledge. We must use the same measures, such as doorsteps, outreach activities, provide information and use resource persons in the immigrant communities, he says and adds:
– We have to get the vaccine. That is the way that is needed if we are to reopen Oslo.
Recently, the infection has skyrocketed in Oslo. But Johansen hints that it may start to flatten out – but takes all reservations about the numbers.
– We follow the situation very closely. Basically, we have introduced as strict measures as we can. Then there may be things that indicate that it is about to flatten out. But we know better on Wednesday. But here I will be very careful, he says.
