A husband and wife in Russia are suspected of being the cause of their daughter’s death. Both of them were so obsessed with a ‘natural’ lifestyle and raw food, that they made their 2 year old daughter starve.
Svetlana Zhiteleva (36) and her husband Denis Zhitelev (35) only feed their little girl named Mana with raw food. Both of them also prohibited their daughter from consuming meat, fish, eggs and milk, and did not even care for her when she was sick.
“Her parents, who come from the Krasnoyarsk region, also treated her (Mana) and their other children only with alternative medicine,” said criminal investigators quoted from The Sun.
From the results of the examination, 2 year old Mana had anemia, a chronic eating disorder, the Corona virus, and developmental delays.
The couple was accused of cruelty to children, neglecting their duties as parents, and failing to save their sick daughter. Both also put their children in danger because of their belief in homeopathy, or believing that all diseases can be cured naturally.
As a result of this incident, the couple lost custody of their two other children aged four years and seven years respectively. Svetlana and Denis were also sentenced to prison terms of up to three years for Mana’s death.
The Russian Investigative Committee explained how the two-year-old girl’s illness began. Her mother, who is a spiritual and yoga trainer, and her husband, a natural oil seller, did not take good care of her.
“The two-year-old girl fell ill with a cold, but her parents did not seek qualified medical help and did not treat the child themselves,” the Russian Investigative Committee said.
“Two days later the child died,” he continued.
Even though it was proven that Mana’s condition was critical, Denis still insisted that his daughter was fine at that time. In fact, he felt he had taken good care of his children.
His temperature, pulse, and heart rate were normal. “There was just weakness, that’s all, his breathing just stopped,” stressed Denis.
“We don’t feed the children [makanan hewani], because that’s how we eat. “Children are conceived and born in such an environment,” he said.
