NEW JERSEY – A huge fire has displaced dozens of families in West New York, New Jersey, and another fire has also broken out in nearby Union City.
Both fires happened around 5pm on Thursday. It is not known how they got started, but they are already being investigated. Firefighters were still at the scene of the West New York fire Friday morning spraying water from an overhead ladder.
A total of 41 families displaced by the massive fire in West New York. At least 25 families lived in the four-story West New York apartment building at Madison and 54th Streets, while the other 16 families were displaced from a decent building.
The displaced are receiving help from the Red Cross.
Firefighters were battling huge flames that were still consuming the building about six hours after the fire started in West New York.
The other incident occurred about three miles away at a Salvation Army store in Union City.
Firefighters said the emergency call was received just before 5pm Thursday.
Even people had to be evacuated in that raging fire.
