Rave in Spino d’Adda, four days of music and crowds

It is curious and almost ironic that, in the maze of streets made up of crossroads with respect to the Paullese, halfway between Crema and Milan, in the territory of Spino d’Adda, two of these lead to Cascina Serena and Cascina Letizia. Serene and happy, certainly, were not the nights of the owner and residents of Cascina Canova, just a few steps from an abusive rave which – in full covid emergency, and just as the government decided to close the discos – brought 1,500 young people crowding under the stage with the music blaring. The music boomed in an open space in the countryside and this may have mitigated the effects of any infections, but it is difficult to find who is ready to bet, at the conclusion of the unauthorized gathering which began at 11pm on Friday and ended yesterday afternoon, that everyone has dodged the danger: and the masks, which someone was wearing correctly, look like a worse piece than the hole.

The arrogant attitude of some guys – who have met on social networks and via smartphone, coming from all over Italy, as well as from France, Holland, Germany, Austria and Switzerland – is clearly visible when the police men stop them to identify them. One of them gets out of the car and dances, scoffing at authority. The carabinieri guard the entrance to the crossroads leading to Cascina Canova; the men of the Digos are positioned in front of the farmhouse. «We called them – explain the residents – after we noticed the comings and goings on Friday evening: there were trucks, campers, cars and scooters, a great chaos. And someone entered the farm asking for a drink on the Saturday of August 15th, and some shelter from the heat. We chased them away, and then asked the police for help, which created a roadblock. We had put a tractor in the middle of the road, to prevent the passage: we were advised to remove it, to avoid riots ».

The police have almost waited for the natural end of the Rave, displacing the last 100 “diehards”. «An estimated 1,000-1,500 people at the moment of maximum influx – explains Gianluca Epicoco of the Digos of Cremona – while on Monday (yesterday, ed.) 3-400 remained. We cannot control everyone, because many roads are passable on foot or by scooter, between dirt and grass. We have chosen the only obligatory step for four-wheeled vehicles to collect names and surnames ». The decibels were still audible on Monday morning. “So many people, so much dirt, so much damage and a few hours of sleep” comment from Cascina Canova. And some, they swear, boasted of being positive for covid: probably just goliardia, which however renders the idea of perception null and void of danger.
