Many feared that we would not see more special games like Patapon and Loco Roco again when PlayStation confirmed that in practice they shut down Japan Studio in 2021, but Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani announced shortly after that he was starting a new studio and that they were working on something very similar to the rhythm action game. Two weeks ago, Ratata Arts unveiled what is called Ratatan, and revealed that it would be a Kickstarter project. Some feared this meant the game would never become a reality. There is no need to worry about it.
rattan without Kickstarter has now started, and it took less than an hour for the project to be fully funded. In fact, the spiritual successor to Patapon is already close to doubling its goal at the time of writing, so rest assured we’ll be getting it on both PC and “modern consoles” sometime in the future.
Not particularly surprising when the gameplay trailer below makes it clear that we can look forward to a very cool presentation and a mix of Patapon’s gameplay with roguelike elements (meaning that parts of the game will change every time you fail) sometime in the future.
