La Liga is involved in another racism scandal.
The Getafe vs Sevilla match was paused when Marcos Acuna was subjected to racist chants.
– We have to clean up football’s image, says teammate Sergio Ramos to DAZN.
Earlier in the season, Vinicius Jr was subjected to racist attacks from supporters in La Liga. Today there was more than a racist scandal in the Spanish top league.
Sevilla’s Argentinian player Marcos Acuna was subjected to racist chants in the 68th minute that included words such as “Acuna monkey” and “Acuna, you came from monkeys”. The match was paused when the referees clearly understood what was said from the stands.
– We have to put an end to this type of people, point them out and punish them with stadium bans. We have to clean up the image of football, says teammate and the match’s only scorer Sergio Ramos to DAZN.
He continues:
– We have really only demanded respect, and that people do not come to football and do what they want and shout stupid things or insult the players.

The coach was exposed
Not only the Argentine Acuna seems to have been exposed. The former Getafe coach and current Sevilla coach Quique Sanchez Flores is also said to have been subjected to racist attacks. According to reports, words like “gypsies” were shouted at the Spanish coach.
– I don’t want them to use “gypsies” as a racist expression, says Sanchez Flores after the match.
The match was resumed
Despite the referee pausing the match and also writing down the racist chants in his match report, the match was resumed. Ramos scored the only goal of the game in the fifth minute. Sevilla is thus in 14th place in La Liga.
