The Ministry of the Interior will block any attempts to buy votes in the upcoming parliamentary elections, announced the Acting Minister of the Interior Boyko Rashkov, after it became clear that the regional governor of Smolyan signaled pressure on voters.
Without specifying who exactly is putting pressure on the voters and where exactly, Minister Rashkov referred to what the regional governor of Smolyan told the ministers and assumed that this is happening in other places as well.
“If someone goes to forestry, for example, to buy firewood, another goes to use other similar services, all this is used to put pressure on these individuals, which is a shameful phenomenon, at least in my estimation.”
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has already identified individuals who organize the vicious practice of buying votes. Therefore, the minister warned:
“Regarding these persons at a certain time to be chosen, it is natural that the necessary legal measures will be taken to prevent the commission of crimes against the political rights of citizens.”
The Ministry of the Interior is gathering information on the subject and will take action, the minister assured.
The government provided BGN 10 million from the budget of the CEC to fulfill the purchase through a public procurement for the delivery of more than 1,600 voting machines. They will be delivered by the state company “Information Service”. It will acquire them from Smartmatic, the manufacturer of the previous 9,600 devices.
Boyko Rashkov explained:
“The machines will be loaded from Holland and will be shipped to the country, I believe, by the end of this week.
