There are around ten producers taking turns at the Uzès market, in Gard, during the truffle production period. Rarer this year due to the drought, this one is also seeing its price increase.
On the Uzès market, in the Gard, truffles were rare this year. Like last year, production suffered from drought.
There are around ten producers from the truffle growers’ union who take turns at the town’s market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. This Wednesday, December 21, 1.5 kg of black truffles were on sale. The smaller ones sold out within minutes.
There are a total of 120 producers who are part of the union.
“What do you want, gluttony… €120. In my memory, it has rarely been more, but it can be less: 90, 1000. Once a year, we treat ourselves, as long as ‘we can”expresses Colette, a buyer of the day.

“We always talk about the price per kilo. The range this year is €800 to €1,200 per kilo, but with 40 to 50 grams of truffles, we can do something very good”says Louis Teule, president of the Gard truffle growers.
He gives tips for enjoying it: “The truffle is quite simple, it’s just perfume. You have to mix it with a fatty substance for it to be excellent. With a scramble, mashed potatoes, on scallops . That’s where it explodes the most.”

The price should drop once the end-of-year holidays are over. The weather, depending on rain and cold, should also affect the rest of the harvest.
