Rare Snowfall Covers France as Sudden Cold Wave Hits the Country

This episode of snow, which occurs after a sudden drop in temperatures in France, also caused disruptions on the roads. In Ile-de-France, bus traffic towards Saclay was interrupted around 10:00 p.m. due to snowfall and Sytadin reported slowdowns on the Paris ring road around 10:45 p.m.

Bison Futé also reported at 10:30 p.m. traffic difficulties on a section of the A77, near Montargis, in the Loiret. Several regions are affected by calls for caution on the road, while 43 departments were classified this Monday as vigilant “extreme cold” (second level out of four).

The winter offensive will continue this Tuesday, January 9, in the north of the country, the North-East wind will accentuate the impression of cold which will spread, according to Météo-France forecasts. Nighttime temperatures will be freezing. It will often be necessary to count -7 to -4 degrees in Hauts-de-France, Grand Est, Brittany, Auvergne and Limousin, and -5 to -2 degrees in the rest of the territory. Only the Côte d’Azur and Corsica will see positive temperatures with 4 to 8 degrees.
